FROM BLOCK TO WAVE: HOW EACH LUFI IS MADE

Each surfboard begins as a blank block and ends as an object designed for your surfing. Between these two points, there are decades of trained eyes, hands that know every curve, and a simple philosophy: nothing goes out without passing through Lufi.

Block selection: PU or EPS

The first decision defines everything that follows. PU (polyurethane) is the classic material—it absorbs water vibrations better, responds with a softer and more familiar feel, and delivers that analog sensation longboarders know and love. EPS (expanded polystyrene) is lighter, stiffer, and generates speed with less effort—ideal for those who want to paddle less and glide more. The choice is not about which is better: it is about which one serves your surfing.

Luís Bento

"I could have a backshaper. It would be easier, faster, cheaper. But the board that reaches you has my name on it, and I need to know exactly what goes under your feet. Every blank I touch, I already know where it will end up. That's not something you can delegate."

Surfboard shape

This is where 35 years of experience comes into play. Lufi Bento works on each board with a planer and sandpaper, sculpting the rocker, defining the rails, and refining the bottom contours. There is no formula—there is intuition. The same model can have subtle variations depending on the surfer's weight, the type of wave, or their surfing style. That is what separates a handcrafted shape from a mass-produced board.

Finishing

The final layer defines how the board will feel in your hands — and how it will look under the sun. The gloss finish offers a smooth, shiny surface with greater water resistance and a classic look. The matte finish has a more velvety texture, an artisanal appearance, and tends to hide signs of wear better. Both are beautiful. Both are durable. The choice is yours.
